What is layout printing?

Layout printing, also known as floor layout printing, transfers CAD plans directly onto the floor at a scale of 1:1. An HP SitePrint prints lines, arcs, points and labels while a Leica total station continuously determines its position relative to your fixed points. The layout takes shape exactly where it sits in the plan, without marking out with a chalk line and tape measure.

How the HP SitePrint works.

  • The Leica total station tracks the printer in real time, referenced to your fixed points or column axes.
  • The printer follows the CAD layout autonomously and prints lines, arcs and labels directly onto the floor.
  • We check the result on site against the agreed reference dimensions.

What we print

What we print

Preparation

What we need from you

  1. CAD layout with reference points the layout to be printed, with fixed points or column axes as reference.

  2. On-site contact someone who knows the area and how to access it.

  3. Time frame when the area is clear and by when the layout must be in place.

Honestly

Where layout printing reaches its limits

Works well

  • Clear, clean, stable and drivable floor surfaces, indoors and outdoors.
  • Smaller joints and slight height differences, such as a steel plate, are no problem.
  • At least 3 m of space is available between the printer and the station.

Does not work

  • People or objects in the line of sight between the total station and printer disrupt the job. Printing is not possible where obstacles are in the way.
  • Heavily soiled or extremely dusty floors are unsuitable. In extremely dusty conditions we do not operate, to protect the equipment.
  • The method is unsuitable for exhibition stands because the ink stays on the floor.
