FAQ
Frequently asked questions about layout printing.
Answers on process, surfaces, accuracy and services at a glance.
The basics
We print floor plans, axes, pipe and cable routes, elevation marks or custom markings directly onto the floor, exactly according to your planning data. Content, colours and markings are tailored to each project.
Traditionally with a chalk line, or with a taut string line and a spray can. It works, but becomes much slower once the layout reaches a certain complexity. The printer transfers even complex geometries and labels directly from the CAD plan.
- The print is internally consistent: all dimensions fit together
- Significant time savings, especially for complex layouts
- On-site check: the result is verified for accuracy right away
- Clear guidance for every trade
Markings are executed with high precision in the millimetre range, directly from your digital plans and tracked by a Leica total station with 1″ angular accuracy.
Process & preparation
A contact person on site, the CAD layout to be printed with reference points (fixed points or column axes) and the time frame. CAD or BIM data in DWG or DXF format is ideal. We prepare the data for printing.
We can respond at very short notice, depending on our workload from other projects even within one day. With some lead time, the job is easier to plan. Plan changes are quickly incorporated into the data and reprinted, with no laborious re-measuring.
Your layout printed on the floor and a verified result based on the reference dimensions agreed with you. On request you also receive an elevation report.
There is no single answer. On-site conditions are decisive: people and objects in the way, limited line of sight between total station and printer, or a dirty hall floor all slow things down. In a clear, clean hall without obstructions, the printer covers a great deal.
No, we cannot check the design itself. That is the planner's responsibility. We do, however, prepare your CAD plan for printing before the job and check the printed result on site against the agreed reference dimensions.
Yes, weekend jobs are possible, for example when the hall is in operation during the week.
Site conditions & services
Printing is not possible where obstacles are in the way. Smaller joints and slight height differences, such as a steel plate, are no problem. In extremely dusty conditions we do not operate, to protect the equipment. Narrow spots are possible, but there must be enough room for the station: the printer needs a minimum distance of 3 m from it.
Concrete, screed, industrial and hall floors as well as paved outdoor areas, indoors and outdoors, and in principle car parks too. The surface should be as level, dry, stable and drivable as possible. The method is unsuitable for exhibition stands because the ink stays on the floor.
Durability depends heavily on how the area is used. As a rule, the markings remain visible throughout the relevant construction phase. Outdoors, weather, rain or heavy site traffic can affect visibility over time. We reprint if required.
Yes. We survey distances and rooms in 2D and 3D and, on request, create a simple CAD layout from the captured data. This service is available to all customers.
